It's not quite what I wanted but might be good enough for the actually
thing I want to do.
Maybe it's a long-shot, but perhaps you could use the dummy device
kernel module (it can receive an independent IP address). Bind that to
the bridge and move it into the container. It's been a while, but I
seem to remember a mechanism similar to this is/was used for qemu
virtualization.
