Unfortunately most of the folks who would be able to answer your
question fully are either on PTO or attending a conference this week.
From the brief look at the issue below, I believe 'rootless' Podman will
handle what you're looking for. I'd say give it a try and see what you
think! Install Podman on your machine and then check out the rootless
tutorial on GitHub

Since I created that issue I found out that other problems from Docker are already solved
by your project. The 1.5.0v release notes talk about squashing IDs so maybe I haven't
misunderstood how rootless works that badly.
