podman image for ngninx
Hello, I'm trying to build a podman image as described here: https://docs.podman.io/en/latest/Introduction.html with the command: podman build -t nginx https://git.io/Jf8ol on SuSE LINUX SLES 15 SP5. This fails with the attached nohup log. It fails mostly due to this: ... Adding system user `nginx' (UID 101) ... Adding new user `nginx' (UID 101) with group `nginx' ... Not creating home directory `/nonexistent'. + apt-get update Err:1 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster InRelease Connection failed [IP: 146.75.118.132 80] Err:2 http://deb.debian.org/debian-security buster/updates InRelease Connection failed [IP: 146.75.118.132 80] Err:3 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster-updates InRelease Connection failed [IP: 146.75.118.132 80] Reading package lists... W: Failed to fetch http://deb.debian.org/debian/dists/buster/InRelease Connection failed [IP: 146.75.118.132 80] ... What can I do? That's pretty weird. Just to double check, 'curl http://deb.debian.org/debian/dists/buster/InRelease" works on the machine you're running podman from, yeah? On Mon, Dec 04, 2023 at 01:31:33PM +0100, Matthias Apitz wrote:

Robin, Sorry for the delay in replying, but I was out for vacation in Havana, Cuba. Now I'm back to business. El día Wednesday, December 06, 2023 a las 08:41:28AM -0800, Robin Lee Powell escribió:

Yeah, your command would not work, because it starts with a single quote and ends with a double quote :-) But, you point in the right direction: this hosts sits behind a firewall and it seems that outbound port 80 and 443 are blocked. I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for your hint matthias

With Robin's hint I'm a bit further the road. I learned from our ID departement, that I must use a SQID proxy to connect the Internet. When I set $ export https_proxy=http://squid-r1.shr.xxxxxxxxx.org:3128 $ export http_proxy=http://squid-r1.shr.xxxxxxxxx.org:3128 The installation in the containers works in part, at least the fetch of the software works: $ nohup podman build -t nginx https://git.io/Jf8ol $ grep Get nohup.out ... Get:16 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster/main amd64 librtmp1 amd64 2.4+20151223.gitfa8646d.1-2 [60.5 kB] Get:17 http://deb.debian.org/debian-security buster/updates/main amd64 libssh2-1 amd64 1.8.0-2.1+deb10u1 [141 kB] Get:18 http://deb.debian.org/debian-security buster/updates/main amd64 libcurl3-gnutls amd64 7.64.0-4+deb10u8 [333 kB] Get:19 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster/main amd64 libreadline7 amd64 7.0-5 [151 kB] Get:20 http://deb.debian.org/debian buster/main amd64 gnupg1 amd64 1.4.23-1 [599 kB] but later the fetch for keys fail in parts, at least, see at the end of this posting. I watched with tcpdump what is fetched, these are the answers from SQUID for the contacted servers: GET.http://ha.pool.sks-keysevers.net:11371/pks/lookup?.... It seems like your system is attempting to connect to Debian repositories ( deb.debian.org) to fetch packages while running a SUSE Linux distribution. This could be due to misconfigured package repositories or a specific configuration pointing to Debian repositories rather than SUSE's. Verify your package repository configuration in /etc/zypp/repos.d/. Ensure that only SUSE repositories are listed there. Remove any Debian repository entries if present. If the problem persists, reviewing the logs in /var/log/zypper.log or /var/log/messages might provide more details on what's causing the attempted connections to Debian repositories. Hello,
I'm trying to build a podman image as described here:

with the command:
podman build -t nginx https://git.io/Jf8ol

What can I do?

Hello Manish, Thanks for your reply. You are referencing an old outdated mail from December 6. The described problem was solved and I've had to move meanwhile to a RH server: # cat /etc/os-release NAME="Red Hat Enterprise Linux" VERSION="8.8 (Ootpa)" ID="rhel" ID_LIKE="fedora" VERSION_ID="8.8" ... matthias
