Hi Erik,

We actually scheduled the first meeting for the third Thursday of July, July 15th, so you didn't miss any meeting :) As we won't be having a community meeting in July we thought to start the community cabal meetings from then.

Sorry for the confusion! And thank you for reaching out.

Thank you,
Urvashi

Hi Urvashi and community,

you might have noticed that I didn't come to yesterday's meeting. This was not the result of a conscious choice
and that it even happened is something I only notice now, in the morning, while I plan my day.

I feel awful about it and want to say I'm sorry for that. If you open up a meeting as a result of my request, I should show up at least the first time.

But there is something good in it as well: It's a good example of why I'm so focused on getting the calendar related things automated.
In the morning I spend some time planning my day, and once it starts I'm more focused on the content of the calendar events than the schedule.

So, if I would not have created an event, then probably I wouldn't even notice today that I've missed it.
And the reason for missing it is that there was no ping 10 minutes before the event, no clue yet why.
I've just tested it and new events on my default calendar get a reminder added automatically .

What I will do next is figure out why this new calendar object doesn't automatically add notifications on event creation,
configure notifications on the existing podman events, find a way that you can send me an "Erik, where are you?"
if you so desire and have as much trust in me that I really do want to come,
and ask you in this email what negative outcomes might have resulted from not coming.

Best,
Erik

PS: If you think that you never had such an issue, because you do <X>, then please also share. Always happy to learn new tricks from my peers!

There's a simple way to send an .ical file, sure. This is even a human readable format. You can write or script your own. But if a user adds an .ical to their calendar it won't get any changes from the creator, e.g. a new zoom link, a modified agenda, or a move to another slot. Maybe it's possible to write such an option, or API link into an .ical event, but Google at least doesn't do it by default it seems.

I would love a single event link for sure, but I haven't seen such an option yet. The closest options I know:
 - Invite to organizer-local calendar event as Tom does it, but might not scale
 - extra calendar, as I currently experiment with, but haven't found anybody who wants to try it with me so far
 - external service provider like Meetup or Eventbrite, but these might require funding and are walled gardens for the orga teams

Best,
Erik

Thanks Eric,

Glad to hear you think the meeting will be useful.  We're all set calendar wise for the folks in Red Hat.  We lean on Google Calendar and have an invite there that we can share out with who ever would like it.

Thanks, Tom & Urvashi.

I Love it. Also, I created a calendar for it that is sharable with both Podman meetings. In the bottom right of the calendar people can add it to their gcal (and probably others).
I can probably also add other admins or help recreating it on an RH account if desired.

Best,
Erik

Hi All,

You may have seen in another discussion started by Erik Bernoth
about having a community meeting that was more of an open forum than
what the Podman Community Meeting is.  For the past several months,
Urvashi Mohnani (cc'd) has been running an internal to Red Hat meeting
that we call the "Cabal".  People send Urvashi discussion topics, and
they're added to the list.  They're generally topics about future
design, interesting issues, or anything related to the containers
projects, Podman, Buildah, and Skopeo.  We also generally have an open
forum for a good chunk of time at the end of the meetings.

Given that we are not having a Podman Community Meeting in July, we
decided to make the July Cabal meeting open to the entire community
rather than just the people at Red Hat.  If you would like to attend,
please do!  If you have a topic that you'd like to be sure that we
discuss, please send a note to Urvashi (cc'd) or myself.  Also, send one
of us a note if you'd like to be added to the calendar event.  The
meeting is free to attend and will be held via Google meet to start.
The link to the room is: meet.google.com/ieq-pxhy-jbh

In addition, we are planning to hold the Podman Community Cabal
Meeting for the entire community on the third Thursday of the month at
10:00 Eastern from now on.  The Cabal meeting will be in addition to the
Podman Community Meeting and not a replacement for it.  We still plan to
hold the Podman Community Meetings on the first Tuesday of each month.

I will send a reminder about the Cabal meetings about a week
beforehand to this list, and I will also put something up on the
podman.io site about it too.

     Thanks all!
