This seems like really odd coincidence. Same test (multi-arch build)
failed for different apparent reasons under two different environments:
Ubuntu + VFS (Directory MIA?)

Fedora + Overlay (Networking flake?)

The test suite started running at nearly the exact same time, though I
cannot say if the failing tests ran at the same time. Though I imagine
it would have been close (within seconds-minutes).

I didn’t look into the failure itself; the *handling* of that failure seems
to be crashing, that should definitely be fixed and not ignored.

you have a moment, would you mind opening one? You know these
code-paths WAY better than me, I'd probably open an issue in the wrong
repo :S

For the record, I have finally looked at this; I’m afraid it’s not just an
easy-to-diagnose crash on an error path as I expected it to be, and it
looks way beyond my knowledge of buildah.
